July Event Preview + Signups
Hello Gems! We're getting close to the end of the month and you know what that means -- it's event time! And this time we've got a very special event lined up for you guys. You'll all be heading out on your very first Excursion! As usual, the details of the plot will go up when the event does but we have some very important things for you guys to get to grips with before it does. Namely, an event timeline and sign ups for each half of the event!
All in all, we're incredibly excited to roll this out for you guys and we hope you have as much fun playing in this event as we've had planning it!
Sign ups for the two challenges are below. If you plan on participating in the July event, please check in here so we have an idea of how many people to account for. While we do not currently have a cap on signups for either challenge, we would like for them to be roughly equal in terms of turnout!
- July 20th: There will be an event start post from Tiger's Eye, where players and characters will receive the hows and whys of the event and have a chance to interact with her before it begins.
July 21st-24th: The event will run! Characters will split into two teams to complete two challenges. One will be combat oriented, for Gems who want some monster-fighting action. Players on this team will be given win conditions to fulfill, and must flex their creativity to meet these conditions in threads with their teammates. The other will be a more traditional investigation, for Gems that do better using their heads. Players on this team will explore an area, receiving details from mods as they go to solve the puzzle at hand. Both these challenges will take place in brand new areas that will be permanently added to the world at the event conclusion!
July 25th: The event will wrap up, and OOCly, we'll make a feedback post for you guys to let us know what you thought of this type of event.
All in all, we're incredibly excited to roll this out for you guys and we hope you have as much fun playing in this event as we've had planning it!

It sounds like there might be instances of NPCs and possibly some coordination between players needed for this event, particularly for the combat team it sounds like? Is there a time when the mods are likely to be most active and/or a time when people participating in the event should try to be around for (for example like when investigations and trials tend to go up at a certain time in Murder Games).
I'd really love to sign Yang up for this first excursion but my RP time will be limited to a couple hours a day if that during that week and the last thing I'd want to do is hold up any proceedings for the mods or other players if it's important that we be around or active at certain times, or if this plot is largely backtag friendly.

Okay, so, you're actually in luck here: the way the combat excursion system is going to work is designed specifically to avoid the problem you bring up.
Here's a less coy version of how it works:
- We post information about a monster, and its win conditions.
- Some of those win conditions are OOC things like "at least 20 comments over at least 2 threads" or "at least 5 characters must participate".
- Some are more IC conditions, like "the monster will explode when nearly defeated" or "at least three characters must attack in combination", that have to be worked into a thread.
- But for the vast majority of combat threads, the threading will be between players, not player-to-mod. We will pop in once win conditions have been met to mark a monster defeated and note any consequences (though you're free to continue tagging if something cool is happening).
The idea is to shift the focus from blow-by-blow combat to the character interactions that can occur in battle. You're encouraged to get creative with the conditions we give you and use them as prompts for dramatic battle scenes. Most importantly for your question, there's no drawback to partial participation - we are using signups to kind of calibrate our numbers, but this Excursion is supposed to be very winnable, so the comment/participation counts needed to win should be more than lenient enough.
The initial NPC post will also be backtag-friendly, so you should be set!
