Hi all! Time for another regular modly announcement~
☆ The end-of month monster event will begin at 6pm PST on 28th!
☆ Following that, August's event will conclude the monster event and begin a month long NPC-focused event around 5pm PST on August 1st. It will NOT be participation heavy, just something to play with. (Since we are aware of the Labyrinth event happening as well!)
☆ After a big response we've decided to implement reserves, a post for which will be set up the first weekend of August as well. The system we've decided on is as follows:
1) Someone submits a reserve, it lasts one week.
☆ Due to concerns over characters with extremely dark or triggering back stories, we are going to reiterate that we will be judging apps with such material more harshly and would like to see what the dark themes mean for the character arc in Cosmographia, since this is meant to be a more light-hearted game and such material should be treated appropriately. The app page and FAQ will be edited with this in mind as well.

☆ After a big response we've decided to implement reserves, a post for which will be set up the first weekend of August as well. The system we've decided on is as follows:
Challenge reserve system:
1) Someone submits a reserve, it lasts one week.
2) To challenge app you need to challenge reserve too, to make the original reserver aware they're going to be challenged
3) The reserve is voided after 1 week. Say someone reserves Gideon form Gravity Falls on Thursday, they have until the following Thursday to submit their app, so that if another app for Gideon is submitted WITHOUT challenge reserving, they will get looked at and judged first but NOT against the other app.
This is not a first come first serve system, but a challenge awareness system.
This is not a first come first serve system, but a challenge awareness system.
So here's example situations:
-Ako reserves Gideon on Thursday.
-Bee also wants to app Gideon, and sees Ako's reserve. She challenge reserves also on Thursday.
-Ako and Bee both submit their apps on Friday. They are challenge apps judged against each other.
OR
-Ako reserves Gideon on Thursday, but never submits her app.
-The following Thursday, her reserves expires.
-Bee sees that Ako's reserve has expired, submits her app the following day on Friday and it's processed.
OR
-Ako reserves Gideon on Thursday, submits her app on Friday.
-Bee DOES NOT challenge reserve but also submits a Gideon app on Friday
-Ako's app is judged on its own, ignoring Bee's for the time being. Ako's app checks out and she's accepted, so Bee's app remains ignored. This is not a challenge situation.
-Alternatively, Ako's app is judged, does not check out, does not have a good understanding of the character. Ako's app is rejected and Bee's is looked at. Bee's app checks out and she is accepted.

I'm also curious because I have a friend
i am enablingconsidering apping from Kagepro, which is like... dead kids: the musical, wherein all of the main characters died and were brought back to life with powers by the power of magic medusa snake bullshit. The show then revolves around the fact the characters are trapped in a time loop where, at the end of the loop, they're killed in order to trigger going back to the start of the loop, where they have no memories of the previous loops. The character she is considering is a decent guy with memory loss who does a lot of helping people and is genuinely a good person, even though he's normally the one who gets possessed and kills everybody. So I guess my question is more "is it the character's personality or history" that is being taken into account more? Where would a character like Jacuzzi whose background is incredibly bloodstained, but who is a total woob be considered under this extremely dark or triggering backstory umbrella?

It's not really the character's personality or history as much as how well they fit with the overall tone of the game, which is meant to be mostly light-hearted much like our inspiration, Steven Universe. However SU deals with a lot of mature subject matter as well, and while we don't push to be "kid-friendly" in the same way the show does, we try to be mindful of themes and elements that would clash.
How players handle their characters is also a major factor. For example, we have Madison from American Horror Story, who was sexually assaulted in her canon, but so far this has been very appropriately handled by her player. If there were concerns over how her mun portrayed her as a sexual assault victim, that may be grounds for a ban depending on how careless, offensive or triggering the portrayal was.
This doesn't mean all canons are appropriate for the game though. When we first opened we rejected an application for a Five Nights at Freddie's character, since we felt the tone of the character/canon clashed too much with the game.
In other words, it's VERY much on a case-by-case basis depending on character, canon, portrayal by the player, and concerns/sensitivities of the playerbase. I hope that clears things up!
