It could very well be that the Heart has set up defenses for this sort of thing and will activate them once someone looks too closely at the link, which may end up frying your mind. Assuming that it doesn't just kill you.

Or the physiological differences between different dimensions may mean that your mind isn't built to withstand such probing in the first place anyway, which again may result in your mind being destroyed in the process.
