Oh, I won't, if only because what I'll tell you is not going to explain what we're all doing here, or why we have gems.

But in my world, the ones that have them are these alien-well, yes, I guess I have to call them that, aliens called the Crystal gems. The ones on Earth fight for us against monsters and corrupted gems left over from a gem war on earth years and years ago. Gems from their homeworld very recently Earth with the intent to probably start making more mischief.

So why WE have them, I can't tell you. I only know the gems, and my best fried Steven who's half human.

Isn't that most kid's dream? Not mine, of course. I prefer books.
