TEST DRIVE - Part 2

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for

cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.

YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

"Amethyst!"

Connie was just picking up some things for grown up Steven to eat when she came across one of the last of the Crystal Gems to not be here! She ran over, smiling.

"You're here, finally! When did you arrive?"

"ACK!"

Hearing her name shouted startles her out of the tree crashing to the ground in front of the grill (And thankfully not ontop).

Sitting up and finding Connie she bursts into a big grin.

"Hey! Where'd you come from? I just got here a couple hours ago!"

"I've been here for months! I think I might have gotten here when the first batch of us were made into gems! I still don't know how that happened, and neither does anyone else."

She shrugged. This was a strange place.

"So have you met anyone yet?"

"Ooo ooo! Show me yo gem girl!

Because Amythst has her priorities and this is kind of an awesome development.

"I didn't know anybody else was here! Where're they hiding?"

"Oh, right!" Connie pulled the right side of her shirt down, showing Amethyst her bare shoulder, which had an oval Moss Agate gem of blue green. "Neat, huh?"

She was grinning. Clearly Connie was rather proud of her gem.

"They're all over! I'm pretty sure you can find Pearl or Garnet in the temple though."

"That is so cool!"

She throws up her hand for a high five because it's not every day someone she likes gets to join the team like for reals.

"If I'm months late I bet Pearl's gonna wanna lecture me." Rolling her eyes she laughs because she'd just as soon skip that part.

"I know! I can do all these cool new powers too! Speed, moving the earth, confusion! It's pretty great!"

Connie is beaming with pride.

"Nah, I can't see her doing that! Garnet just arrived herself!"

"Really!? Ooo ooo lemme see! I've always wondered what you would be like if you really cut loose!

A pause and then...

"I mean aside from Stevonnie. They sounded pretty wild."

She makes an exaggerated look of relief. "Well if Garnet was late too then no one can get on my case for showing up. They should be lucky i'm here at all!"

Puffing her chest out with pride. Oh if only she knew just how messed up things had gotten.

"Stevonnie is always what I'd prefer," Connie said with a bit of pride, "but since you want to see what I can do..."

Connie started to run a circle, light and easy, then she doubled her speed, then tripled, and then you could only see a blur as the sand now started to become a funnel and turn into its own mini sand devil, which pelted someone fiercely with a pelting of sand farther down the beach. Connie followed that with a sand castle her size...in thirty seconds flat.

"Control of the earth AND speed!" Connie said proudly.

Oh right. There would be a lot to talk about.

"So none of the other gems have talked to you, have they?"

Amethyst let out a cheer and hooted in the sort of undignified manner that would make Pearl step aside.

"That's so AWESOME! Geeze give it a couple months and you're already way past Steven's level!" There was a pause and she added "Don't tell him I said that."

Oh if only she knew.

"Nah, you're the first person from Beach city I've seen. I just figured I'd sort it all out after I had some lunch."

Which thankfully she didn't actually need because this conversation had completely distracted her from her original goal.

"Hey, I wish I could have Steven's shield!" Connie said, managing a laugh. "Until I got my other powers, all I had was confusion, so I learned how to sword fight too. I'll be training with Pearl soon too!"

She looked a little sad mentioning Steven though. "Trust me, you'll meet a LOT of cool people here! But um, you should know" Lapis, Peridot and Jasper are here too."

Her hair actively bristled like a cats fur standing on end and she cast a quick glance around like Jasper might suddenly pop out of the food stall nearby and pummel her.

"Aw man! How'd they get out of the ocean? What are they doing? Is Peridork still missing her foot?"

Because that last one was clearly the most important.

"One question at a time! I understand why you'd be freaked. Lapis was brought here about the same time as me and Pearl, and she was freaked out about not being fused too. She's mostly alright except for when she tried to kill Pearl a little while ago and me, and a bunch of other gems had to fight her fusion off. Peridot...well, she keeps to herself, she's sort of a recluse here. Why would she be missing a foot?"

She took a breath. "Jasper though...that's where things get tricky. Have you ever heard of an alternate universe?"

The thought that Lapis would try to kill Pearl appeared to shock and anger Amethyst in the space of a few seconds, however her questions were derailed by the rest of the answers. It did not shock her in the least that Peridot was keeping to herself however when confronted with the alternate universe question her eyes narrowed and she shrugged.

"Is this like that alternate timeline stuff from that time Steven made all those clones?"

For all the TV Amethyst had watched, Science Fiction was not her strongest subject.

"Something like that," Connie said, "but you're getting the idea. This Jasper, in her version of things, she was like Lapis, being imprisoned by the Crystal gems for years, freed by Steven, only Lapis is in Peridot's role and Peridot's in Jasper's role. Basically, she's beefy and strong and only motivated by saving Steven."

MIND BLOWN.

...

There was a long pause as Amethyst processed this her eyes wide and jaw hanging open.

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?"

Yeah that was pretty much all her thoughts on the subject.

"I know," Connie said, shaking her head. "It took me awhile to wrap my head around it. In fact, when she said her name, I was actually trying to fight her...I sorta punched her and everything. She could probably have killed me."

She looked sheepish, but didn't shy away either. She still remembered seeing Steven with that black eye, and how angry he'd been to see Jasper there in the flesh.

"She broke my sword though."

While Amethyst was glad that Connie only lost a sword and not...ya know, her head. The idea of working together with Jasper twisted her usually cast iron stomach. Would she be able to look that big orange jerk in the face and swallow that she was really dedicated to protecting Steven?

Well...Steven was the best judge of character on the team.

Struggling with a pout Amethyst managed to sound fairly unenthused but at least not distressed or angry. "Great, that'll be totally not at all weird to deal with. How'd everyone take the big surprise?"

"Everyone is bound to have their own reaction. But I could tell by looking at her she wasn't the Jasper you guys knew. The life in her, the reason she's angry and fighting has to do with Steven. She'll protect him even if it killed her."

Connie was not one for saying something like this without thoroughly checking people's best intentions.

"I'm...I'm telling you that she's not who you have to worry about. I'll vouch for her. To be honest, its Steven you should be looking after."

It helps her case that Steven is always going on about how smart Connie is. Then again it also makes her think a bit of Pearl's fussy know-it-allism.

At least Connie isn't as insufferable about it.

"Yeah well, I guess I'll just have to see for myself. This town ain't that big. She can't hide forever."

Ignoring the fact that Jasper isn't hiding from anyone.

"With someone like Jasper that'd be close to impossible," Connie said, shaking her head. "It doesn't help that her reaction to most things is punching it away. I'm guessing that there are some things from the Jasper back home that still rings true. There's still a lot to figure out, I guess."

Again, getting used to all of this. Alternate universe selves was just an odd concept.

"Maybe you should see Pearl though. She could use some support, she's been through a lot recently."

Well to be fair, Amethyst can't argue with the "Punch things to fix them" method of problem solving. The foot prints in Steven's TV are evidence of that.

The Gem's natural short attention span instantly drops thoughts of Jasper when Connie brings up Pearl. She groans in a mix of annoyance and worry given what Pearl had just gone through in Amethysts recent memory.

"What happened? What did she do?" She presses anxiously.

Connie could make a pretty good argument for why punching things didn't work: in Jasper's case, you wound up punching the wrong person, and then you wound up looking like a jerk. Still, that beat Jasper from their world by a mile.

"Don't do that, Amethyst, she's been through a lot. There wasn't any of you guys here, so she'd been trying to help all these would be gems learn their powers. The stress caused her to turn into a gem monster, and when that happened, Lapis and another jerk fused to try and, well, kill her permanently. Steven had to fuse with someone else to fight the fusion off."

Luckily, Pearl was recovering. Sort of.

Amethyst looked like someone had punched her in the gut. Her eyes widened and if someone didn't know that a gem didn't really need to breath they might worry she wasn't.

"She...she what!?!?" Her bark of shock was so loud the locals jumped startled and spun around to see what was wrong. That was so much worse then what she had imagined! So much worse then Garnet and Pearl not talking to each other! Pearl was supposed to be the organized one. Sure she got stressed out a lot but she never let it get that bad!

"Where is she?" This was clearly something that had to be dealt with right away. No time to think about it or consider the best way to handle things. That wasn't Amethysts style. "Pearl or Lapris, I'll deal with either of them!" She declared torn between uncomfortable worry and anger which she was much more comfortable with.

"Ok, Pearl is in the temple, probably. She moves around, so she could be just about anywhere. Se's better now, but um.Pearl is not the only thing to keep in mind. I don't know where Lapis is though."

And she would continue not knowing because that meant not having to see Bill.

"Mr. Universe is here too, you know. And...and Rose. I'm not sure how, but she's here too."
