TEST DRIVE - Part 2

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.


YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

The thought that Lapis would try to kill Pearl appeared to shock and anger Amethyst in the space of a few seconds, however her questions were derailed by the rest of the answers. It did not shock her in the least that Peridot was keeping to herself however when confronted with the alternate universe question her eyes narrowed and she shrugged.

"Is this like that alternate timeline stuff from that time Steven made all those clones?"

For all the TV Amethyst had watched, Science Fiction was not her strongest subject.

"Something like that," Connie said, "but you're getting the idea. This Jasper, in her version of things, she was like Lapis, being imprisoned by the Crystal gems for years, freed by Steven, only Lapis is in Peridot's role and Peridot's in Jasper's role. Basically, she's beefy and strong and only motivated by saving Steven."

MIND BLOWN.

There was a long pause as Amethyst processed this her eyes wide and jaw hanging open.

Yeah that was pretty much all her thoughts on the subject.

"I know," Connie said, shaking her head. "It took me awhile to wrap my head around it. In fact, when she said her name, I was actually trying to fight her...I sorta punched her and everything. She could probably have killed me."

She looked sheepish, but didn't shy away either. She still remembered seeing Steven with that black eye, and how angry he'd been to see Jasper there in the flesh.

"She broke my sword though."

While Amethyst was glad that Connie only lost a sword and not...ya know, her head. The idea of working together with Jasper twisted her usually cast iron stomach. Would she be able to look that big orange jerk in the face and swallow that she was really dedicated to protecting Steven?

Well...Steven was the best judge of character on the team.

Struggling with a pout Amethyst managed to sound fairly unenthused but at least not distressed or angry. "Great, that'll be totally not at all weird to deal with. How'd everyone take the big surprise?"

"Everyone is bound to have their own reaction. But I could tell by looking at her she wasn't the Jasper you guys knew. The life in her, the reason she's angry and fighting has to do with Steven. She'll protect him even if it killed her."

Connie was not one for saying something like this without thoroughly checking people's best intentions.

"I'm...I'm telling you that she's not who you have to worry about. I'll vouch for her. To be honest, its Steven you should be looking after."

It helps her case that Steven is always going on about how smart Connie is. Then again it also makes her think a bit of Pearl's fussy know-it-allism.

At least Connie isn't as insufferable about it.

"Yeah well, I guess I'll just have to see for myself. This town ain't that big. She can't hide forever."

Ignoring the fact that Jasper isn't hiding from anyone.

"With someone like Jasper that'd be close to impossible," Connie said, shaking her head. "It doesn't help that her reaction to most things is punching it away. I'm guessing that there are some things from the Jasper back home that still rings true. There's still a lot to figure out, I guess."

Again, getting used to all of this. Alternate universe selves was just an odd concept.

"Maybe you should see Pearl though. She could use some support, she's been through a lot recently."

Well to be fair, Amethyst can't argue with the "Punch things to fix them" method of problem solving. The foot prints in Steven's TV are evidence of that.

The Gem's natural short attention span instantly drops thoughts of Jasper when Connie brings up Pearl. She groans in a mix of annoyance and worry given what Pearl had just gone through in Amethysts recent memory.

"What happened? What did she do?" She presses anxiously.

Connie could make a pretty good argument for why punching things didn't work: in Jasper's case, you wound up punching the wrong person, and then you wound up looking like a jerk. Still, that beat Jasper from their world by a mile.

"Don't do that, Amethyst, she's been through a lot. There wasn't any of you guys here, so she'd been trying to help all these would be gems learn their powers. The stress caused her to turn into a gem monster, and when that happened, Lapis and another jerk fused to try and, well, kill her permanently. Steven had to fuse with someone else to fight the fusion off."

Luckily, Pearl was recovering. Sort of.

Amethyst looked like someone had punched her in the gut. Her eyes widened and if someone didn't know that a gem didn't really need to breath they might worry she wasn't.

"She...she what!?!?" Her bark of shock was so loud the locals jumped startled and spun around to see what was wrong. That was so much worse then what she had imagined! So much worse then Garnet and Pearl not talking to each other! Pearl was supposed to be the organized one. Sure she got stressed out a lot but she never let it get that bad!

"Where is she?" This was clearly something that had to be dealt with right away. No time to think about it or consider the best way to handle things. That wasn't Amethysts style. "Pearl or Lapris, I'll deal with either of them!" She declared torn between uncomfortable worry and anger which she was much more comfortable with.

"Ok, Pearl is in the temple, probably. She moves around, so she could be just about anywhere. Se's better now, but um.Pearl is not the only thing to keep in mind. I don't know where Lapis is though."

And she would continue not knowing because that meant not having to see Bill.

"Mr. Universe is here too, you know. And...and Rose. I'm not sure how, but she's here too."

As soon as Connie said that Pearl was at the temple Amethyst was turning to head that way. Then she had to go and say something crazy and it made Amethyst spin around so fast she lost her balance and fell on her face.

"Wait...wait no. You said Steven was here and Steven can't be here if Rose is here that...that's not...no." She babbled picking herself up slowly as her brain tried to cope with this new information. She had grieved for Rose! She had raised Steven her life was not prepared to turn such a sharp left turn!

"Amethyst!" Ok, Connie is helping you up now. Why did she have to go and say that to Amethyst? This was definitely a lot to take in!

"He is here...well, sort of. That's something else that needs explaining. The point is, somehow, he and Rose can both exist here. When you're brought to this place, somehow you're made a full gem. It's all a bunch of strangeness that really has no rhyme or reason to it. I've been here a few months and I still don't understand why I'm here in the first place."

Once she's on her feet she's got both hands on her head as if she's trying to keep all the new information crammed inside.

"I...I just saw them! We were in this old gem ship chasing Peridot and everything was...well it just was and now I get here and all of this? Seriously!?"

But then a thought tickles the childish part of her and she relaxes a little hanging her head and trying to push everything else out but that one glistening gleaming thought that makes her smirk.

"So...how did Greg and Pearl take it seeing her again?"

"Sorry. I know this is a lot to take in. When I was first brought here, it was just me, Pearl and Lapis from our world, dealing with people from OTHER worlds who have their own stories. They've dealt with wars, demons, witches, just about anything you could imagine, and yet they're still here, taking in being a gem. So when Steven, Mr. Universe and finally Rose got here, all bets were off about being surprised."

Because there didn't seem to be any sort of pattern in who was brought here, or why, Connie couldn't even begin to try and formulate who was powerful enough to turn them all into gems to begin with.

"Well, Mr, Universe is pretty happy, and Pearl is floored, of course. I don't get to see Rose much myself though."

"Sheesh...I never woulda put the three of you together." Amethyst smirked with her usual blunt honesty. Because seriously who would have thought those three should be on a team?

She smiled though hearing that Greg was happy and hearing Pearl's feelings on the subject made her grin broader.

"I wish I coulda seen that." She added wickedly. "Come on let's go back to the temple I gotta see them!"

"I would have never thought it would happen either, along with any of the other things that happened," Connie admitted. "But Garnet is here now along with everyone else, so it'll be great for Steven to have all of the crystal gems together...assuming he ever remembers everyone.

And is a kid again.

"Sure, ok? From what I saw, they're pretty lovey dovey now!"

"Better late then never." She mused following Connie back the way she'd come towards the temple.

It sounded like she'd missed a lot, and knowing their lives there was plenty more on the way.

"What do you mean ASSUMING he remembers everyone? Who could forget me?"

Because seriously, she had emotionally scarred some people.

"No one even knows when they get pulled in. So yeah, I'm glad that you're finally here!"

"He's forgotten everyone, Amethyst, aside from glimpses. He's even forgotten me."

Her jaw falls open and she stares in puzzlement. As if the words that connie is saying just can't actually fit in the same sentence together.

"No way! What happened? Did he get hit on the head? I saw on TV if you hit a human on the head that happens! But if you do it again it comes back!"

Logic! Science! Sitcoms!

"That would make sense, if the only thing that happened was that he was hit on the head. What happened to him is much more puzzling. See, one day we were in someone's room, watching this duel. The short end of the story is, some things went wrong and there was a weapon that was activated that could have caused everyone to go back into their gem. Steven bubbled it with him at the last minute and it exploded, him with it, and no one could find his gem. I looked, over and over, from the room to the temple and then I started to look through the whole beach. Finally, he came back somehow, but older, with no memories of us except what small fragments he could remember."

She paused, taking a breath. "It was hard for all the people he made friends with. Rose blamed one of the people who's duel we watched, and when Jasper came, she was so angry she started to beat up that same guy, who was so distraught he let it happen. But Steven's back now, so...we're making do with what we can."

"I...he...uh..."

Really, what could she say to...any of that. Groaning she put both hands to her face rubbing it in frustration and stretching the soft purple skin around her cheeks and eyes.

"I can't leave you guys alone for a minute." she complained as if she could have helped with any of that. "Is it too late to crawl back in my hole?"

Connie was a little quiet for that. She was, after all, young and knew that this was something she was having to deal with as best as she could. But it still was awful and frustrating at the same time.

"I don't know," she finally said. "If any of the gems want to try and fix him, you're more than welcome. I was just looking for him for days and keeping the faith that he wasn't...gone. It's not like I don't wish this wasn't happening."

Oh...whoops. Amethyst may sometimes have the emotional density of a normal non-sentient rock, but even she realized that she might have been a little harsh on Connie with that last bit.

Casting a glance around she confirmed that no one was watching them, especially no one they knew.

"Hey, hey, I was just messing around. You know how I am." She apologized barely and then in what looked to be a very awkward and difficult thing for her, she held her arms out offering a hug.

Amethyst had a hard enough time hugging Steven, Garnet and Pearl in sappy emotional situations. Connie hadn't really gotten to that point with her yet but clearly the kid had been holding her own for this long.
