TEST DRIVE

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for [community profile] cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.

YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.
strengthinkindness: (Are you sure)

[She nodded a little, unconsciously reaching up to tap her hoof to the gem in her chest.]

Mm...What did it mean when it said...we're magical gems...?
connie_maheswaran: (Regular Connie)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well.

[Connie cleared her throat].

In my world, there are these being called the Crystal Gems: Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. They defend the Earth from corrupted monsters and protect the creatures of their world. Their gems are the things that give them their powers.
strengthinkindness: (I remember)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nodded as she listened.]

Where did they come from?
connie_maheswaran: (Hmm)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The gem homeworld, but I don't know much about it than that. Not even Steven did.
strengthinkindness: (I don't think that's right)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I see...

So...do all the magical gems come from that homeworld? I-I mean...the stones themselves...
connie_maheswaran: (we'll get through this right?)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of them, yes.

But I know there were a few born on Earth that the homeworld gems manufactured on their own. Why they did, I don't know, but it wasn't for anything good.
strengthinkindness: (Neutral)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
M-Mm...doesn't sound like it...

[She taps the gem on her chest again, thinking.]

S-So...these are able to give us powers...?

Meredy (Landsknecht OC) | Etrian Odyssey IV

[personal profile] legendsuccessor 2015-03-25 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[So to learn something new, Meredy had to tell two truths and a lie? She felt it was a peculiar way to learn a new technique but at the same time it wasn't like it would hurt to play a long. She hums to herself as she thinks of things that would work, the gem on the back of her left hand glinting a little in the light.]

Let me see... Oh, I got it! My guild has our very own airship. I have seen three dragons. I can dance really well.

connie_maheswaran: (Not lion around)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, once you learn them. My friend had to learn how to summon his too. It takes a bit of practice, but soon you're able to do it. I think it depends a lot on how your personalities shine through.
strengthinkindness: (Hmm)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods again.]

What...kind of powers would we have...?
connie_maheswaran: (two plus two means whatever)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. It varies with each gem.
strengthinkindness: (Thinking it over)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see... [That made sense. Rarity always talked about how gems were different, so having different powers for each gem sounded right.]

Mm...I wonder how we were brought here to be gems...?

[That was more a general question than one directed to Connie. But it seemed a bit strange that the gem homeworld, or wherever these gems had come from, were seeking out beings from other worlds to become these magical gems.]
connie_maheswaran: (Calculations in check)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I knew. I have a friend who was half gem and really strong. It's just...I NEVER was, so I don't understand why I have gem powers now, or why anyone else does.

[Maybe they needed more to combat more corrupt gems? But then, why would it just choose people at random, especially this sweet sounding Pegasus who certainly didn't look like she wanted to go around fighting gems].
strengthinkindness: credit to <user name=laenavesse site=livejournal.com> (I am)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm...I-I suppose we'll...see...

[Unfortunately that involved more waiting while they tried to figure out just what they would be doing here.

Hopefully it wouldn't be too bad though.

Not having many other questions, at least for the moment, she decides to try some friendlier conversation.]

Wh...Wh-What's your friend like...?
alittlemystery: (Excuse me!)

[personal profile] alittlemystery 2015-03-25 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaahh. Kind of an understatement.

So your hero friends back home explained a lot of this stuff to you, you said?
connie_maheswaran: (I'm free (heaven helps the Connie))

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that we can be sure of.

[Connie smiled]

Friendly. He's very outgoing, likes seeing the best in people, and he always wants to play. His goal is to be like his mom, who's said to be one of the greatest gems of all.
strengthinkindness: (That's very nice)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm...He sounds very nice...
connie_maheswaran: (Amped)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take your word for it.

He explained what he knew. Some of it he still didn't. There's a lot that the Gems wanted to keep from him because, well, he's still pretty young.
connie_maheswaran: (keying in coordinates)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He is. He's my best friend.

Well, he's my only friend. I move around a lot and I don't get to make them too much.
strengthinkindness: (And very caring)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
O-Oh...

[She knows how hard it is to make friends.]

I'm...glad you have someone like him as your friend...

[Maybe they could all make some new friends here.]
connie_maheswaran: (Cosplay!)

[personal profile] connie_maheswaran 2015-03-25 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. He's one of the nicest people, eager as he is. I think people like him make it easier for people who are usually quite to open up, let themselves out there a little more!
strengthinkindness: (Shy smile)

[personal profile] strengthinkindness 2015-03-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fluttershy nodded.] Mm...I have a friend like that too...

[Well...several, really.]

Tamika Flynn | Welcome to Night Vale

[personal profile] forthearchbishop 2015-03-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tamika's a small-town girl herself, but this place is tiny even by the standards of the metaphysically active rural towns located in the heart of geographically ambiguous desert waste-scapes. And while it's not like there isn't plenty to do with gem business going down all the time, sometimes it's nice to get out and do something that doesn't involve bashing monsters in the face with hardcover editions of classic literature.

You know, occasionally. A girl's gotta have some sense of balance in her life.

So the farmer's market is a welcome distraction for the afternoon, even if there does seem to be a complete absence of imaginary corn. Also, she's pretty sure that that stand near the end of the row, the one with artisan breads, is peddling wheat and/or its byproducts. This is why the stocky black teenager with the hunk of polished bloodstone set into her right shoulder is eyeing the poor innocent baker with unveiled suspicion rather than looking where she'd going, and, consequently, runs smack dab into some other bystander. ]

[personal profile] legendsuccessor 2015-03-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooph!

[Meredy hadn't exactly been paying attention herself because was much more engrossed in examining some products being sold in the stand next to the baker's stand. So she's a little more than surprised when she feels something collide with her body but it's not enough to make her stumble.

Oh, it was a kid.]
forthearchbishop: (everything was incorrect and not allowed)

[ Ok, look, if there's one thing every Night Vale schoolkid knows, it's that you do not look at the hooded figures. (Also that mountains aren't real and that there's a faceless old woman who secretly lives in all of their houses, but those basic facts of life aren't really relevant right now.) So Tamika has been kind of trying to keep track of the weird, heavily shrouded guy out of the corner of her eye without drawing attention to herself.

This works really well up to the point that she loses track of him, comes around the end of a row of vendors, and finds him again by means of colliding with him.

Well, the flinching and apologizing thing is probably a good sign that the hooded figure isn't about to drag her off to some unknown fate, although she still raises the heavy hardcover book she's carrying in both hands, in case she's got to bludgeon someone in self-defense. Old habits die hard. ]
