TEST DRIVE - Part 3

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.


YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

[So you're going about your daily gem business, whether it's bringing in a bubbled monster or coming back after your morning jog, or even coming to after a mysterious you-shaped hole spat you out onto the floor, when all of a sudden...]

Hey, you!

[Oh god, here he comes.]

We're s'posed to being doing this truth thing for the Heart, right? Well c'mon! Hit me with your best shot! I'm gonna sniff out your lies like a bloodhound!

[he's starting to get really intense about playing this dumb party game, maybe you should just roll with it]

[Zen just quietly gazes at the enthusiastic young man who had accosted him and boldly declared his confidence in being able to discern the lie from his truths. He still isn't sure why they had to tell a lie along with the truths but someone had explained to him earlier that it was a bit like a game.

There's a few beats of silence as Zen considers what he should say.]

I only have offensive abilities. I was born from humans. I didn't know life until after I met Rei and everyone else.

[Gentaro adopts his best Thinking Pose (one hand cupping his chin, the other readjusting his pomp) and lets out a loud "hmmm" as he puzzles over this conundrum.

This guy definitely looks like a brawler, and he seems human enough (though experience ha taught him not to make that judgement too quickly), so it's gotta be...]

The last thing! You had to have somethin' going on before you met your buddies, right?

[A shake of the head. While yes it is true that he was doing things before meeting them, what he was doing hadn't been living. Not in the sense that people considered living to be with the added fact that he had never thought of it until after the whole mess started.]

[Yknow what, he probably should've known. He's seen what friendship can do for people first-hand, and it's cool that this guy knows what that's about too.]

Then... the first thing! I bet you're a real softy, right?

[He tilts his head at the softy part like he isn't sure what is being said before he answers.]

Yes. I have both offensive and support abilities.

[That's a really weird way of phrasing it, but Gen's not gonna ask questions because HE WON!]

Yes! Nailed it! [celebratory fistpump goes here] Alright, now it's my turn. Uhh. Lemme think.

I'm one of the founding members of the Kamen Rider Club, my first big crush was a buncha slime, and I made friends with almost everyone at my old school! [Gentaro is a lot of things, but a good liar isn't one of them.]

[... Those were certainly some interesting sounding things he just said. Zen falls into silent contemplation.]

... Is it the third one?

[OH NO! His clever ruse, foiled! He covers his face with his hands and tilts his head back in anguish. Truly the look of a man who has been bested.]

Damn! You got me on the first try!

[Okay, never mind, he's fine now. It's just a game, right?]

Man, you're like a freakin' human lie detector! How'd you figure it out?

It was simply a guess.

It was a really good guess, though. Nice goin'!

[And here he thrusts his hand out, ready and willing to initiate The Handshake Please don't mess this up, Zen.]

[akindperson]

[He'll stare blankly at the extended hand for a beat before grasping it. And Gentarou initiates the handshake of friendship he... blinks once and just lets him do whatever it is that he is doing.]

[Operation: Handshake is a complete success! He can already tell this relationship is off to a rollicking good start. Speaking of which...]

So, what's your name? We're already gonna be friends, so I might as well ask!

[He's pretty much completely forgotten the whole "new power" thing at this point.]

[What a curious gesture. Link never did that when they shook hands before.]

I am called Zen.

Pleased to meet ya, Zen! [That's kind of a weird name, but he's not in any position to judge. Besides, it suits him!]

The name's Gentaro Kisaragi, [chest thump and point] And I'm gonna be friends with every Gem in this town!

[Zen will tilt his head in acknowledgement to Gentaro. He was certainly a very excitable person.]

That's really ambitious of you.

You're damn right! I'm not gonna get anywhere if I don't shoot for the top! [He punctuates this with an emphatic point in a vaguely upward direction]

I'm already off to a great start, too!

I see.

[Oh! Steven's done this before, and this person must be new so after a few seconds of thinking, he'll jump right into the game!]

Oooooooookay, I got it! I'm half gem...I've never had fish on pizza...and I've been to space before!

[Steven...steven you don't know what you're doing. Steven wait.]

[Oh man, this kid. He likes this kid already.

Not that that's worth noting, since this is Gentaro we're talking about, but he kneels down to get a little closer to eye-level with Steven]

Gotta be the second one. Fish on pizza sounds super gross!

Actually no! Fish Stew Pizza is some of the best I've had, and you can call me a bit of a pizza expert.

[He wasn't going to hold that against his new friend though, different tastes and all! But...he felt like something was off, and then it hit him.]

Oh wait...I was supposed to lie about something wasn't I? But...dad always told me I shouldn't lie...

Oops?

[Sorry, his morals got in the way of him playing the game right...but hey, at least it shows that he has a strong set of them!]

[Yknow what, he really can't fault him for that. If there's one thing Gentaro likes to see more than anything, it's the truth. Cue a reassuring pat on the shoulder.]

Hey, don't worry about it! "Honesty's the best policy", righ--

[Wait. Wait.

Hold on just one goshdarn second here!]

No way! You've been to space too!? [The shoulder pats have, at this point, transitioned into violent shaking. He's just so excited about space!]

[And thus a small child was vigorously shaken, though he doesn't mind it much; he can tell this person is just really excited.]

Y-y-yeah! It was-r-r-really a-a-awesome!!

[Okay maybe he was getting a little dizzy. Just a little.]

[Okay, hint taken. The shaking has ceased. Gen doesn't apologize, but he manages to look very sorry for about a second before bursting into a smile again.]

I know, right?! So how'd you do it?

My friend Lapis brought me up a giant pillar of water so she could talk with me.

[A pause...because even Steven could realize that what he just said made no sense out of context.]

She can control water! And she was trying to get home which isn't on earth, so she...borrowed the ocean so she could get into space! But we kinda needed the ocean back, so I went up and talked to her!

[And he sounds wholly unperturbed by that.]

Its kinda cold, but its pretty cool up there! All the stars seem a whole lot closer.
