TEST DRIVE - Part 3

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for [community profile] cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.

YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

(Frisk is completely comfortable with this intimidating giant. After Undyne - or Flowey - very little can scare them that much, especially if it hasn't made a move to harm anyone.

So have an ambiguously-gendered kid in a striped shirt looking up at you with a bemused expression, Rando.)

Looks like some of the shopkeepers need couriers and stockboys. You look big and strong, maybe you could help with stocking stuff? I'm getting a delivery job.

[It is odd to see a child, let alone one so seemingly young. Rando isn't quite sure if he can't tell if Frisk is a boy or girl because the child simply is that androgynous, or because it's been so long since he's seen a child actually dressed like a normal, happy child. There were a few remaining children, the last generation of them taken care of by Morace at his orphanage - Rando supposes he should visit it again sometime - and...well.

Buddy.

But he'd rather not think about that, at least right now, considering his last memories before arriving here.]

Oh, I could do that. I just never r-really had a j-job before...a real one.

[The Flash had occurred before he could have really entered the workforce, though only really right before he would have been of age for it. And really, the job market in Oliathe after the flash was...quite different.]

There are stores here that are b-big enough to need that kind of help?

[Despite trying to, the giant of a man cannot keep at least a little of his surprise out of his voice. He knew it was possible; he remembered them from his own childhood and teen years, of course.

But he never imagined he'd see a place that would need that kind of assistance again, see a store that was really anything more than a traveling merchant or a shack hastily built out of quickly rotting wood or carved into some hovel.]

Oh yeah. The cafe and some of the other stores on the boardwalk or in the city itself.

(They notice his unease - to someone whose life has been 'find out emotional tells and be a friend,' it's loud as a gunshot. Even if they can't understand where the pain is coming from, they can sense it. So.)

You look like you've had a really bad time. But it's okay here, mostly, I think.
bloodredtears: (T...Tell me more)

[personal profile] bloodredtears 2015-09-30 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's unnerving, a little, to have his clear unease called out like that. It's not because it's a child doing it, oddly enough, but that anyone at all is. While Rando knew that aside from his strength he wasn't the most intimidating man - he knew some of his men disobey him, he wasn't stupid - but no one ever called him out on his awkwardness when he demonstrated it. Truth be told, just how much he kept himself covered up was in part to hide that, and while he was sure many of his men could tell that awkwardness was in him, most of them liked him enough (not respected) not to openly mention it.

No one ever really talked about it, or mentioned that he had had a 'bad time' - in Oliathe, who didn't? - and having it now? A bit of a surprise.]

O-oh...it's alright. This place...it sounds lovely.

[And it does.]

H-Have you been here long then?
determinedpacifist: (a little light music)

[personal profile] determinedpacifist 2015-09-30 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not very, but I haven't had to dodge anything yet.

(Oof. They say this so matter-of-fact.)

And everyone in town has been very nice to me.
bloodredtears: (Bigger than I Should Be)

[personal profile] bloodredtears 2015-09-30 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That's nice at l-least.

[He can understand that. Dodging wasn't particularly hard for the man, but he'd really rather not have to dodge than anything.

...And there's something he has to know.]

...T-T-This town...it has men and w-women?
determinedpacifist: (nonplussed)

[personal profile] determinedpacifist 2015-09-30 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Men and women and boys and girls and none of the above, yeah.

(It's subtle, but they gesture to themselves when they say 'none of the above.' Their normally stoic face is troubled, though. This whole conversation is pinging their empathy hard.)

Were you alone back home?
bloodredtears: (No More B-Bloodshed)

[personal profile] bloodredtears 2015-09-30 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, oh no I w-wasn't alone.

[Physically.]

Where I'm from there just....aren't children or w-women anymore.
determinedpacifist: (emotional pain)

[personal profile] determinedpacifist 2015-09-30 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's awful!

(Yes, Frisk, it is. What else needs to be said?)
bloodredtears: (Failure)

[personal profile] bloodredtears 2015-10-02 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
It is.

[Rando would hardly be the one to deny how terrible the state of Oliathe was. It was that state that he had wanted to change so dearly, to try and reclaim it to some sense of normalcy.]

I-It could change...it has the chance to.

...But I don't think i-it will.

[And it hurts to say that now.]

Sometimes you have to know when to quit.

(Says DETERMINATION! themselves, and means it.)

Things are better here. Don't worry.
bloodredtears: (Give P-Peace a Chance...)

[personal profile] bloodredtears 2015-10-03 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes you have to know when to quit.

That...that's something Rando knows rings true, but it's also something that, instinctively, bothers him to hear. Because there are some things, at least, he thinks are always worth the effort.

And yet, the truth of those words are very clear to him. If he had thought of them himself back home...a lot would have changed. Probably for the better.]

I-I will try not to. Thank you...

M-My name is Dusty. W-What's yours?

[personal profile] determinedpacifist 2015-10-04 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm Frisk.

Some of my friends from the Underground are here too... most of them are monsters. Like two of them are skeletons. But they're cool people.
bloodredtears: (L..Lht...Let me tell you a...a story)

[personal profile] bloodredtears 2015-10-04 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[The only real 'monsters' Rando had met were the joy mutants that littered the landscape of Oliathe by this point, and even then - it wasn't as if you tried to do anything other than fight or flee one of them, if you happened to meet them.

Whatever the creatures Frisk is describing then? Rando doesn't doubt that they are far different than what he would think.]

If they are your friends, I-I'm sure they are very kind. It doesn't matter w-what someone looks like. What they have in their heart...that matters....
