TEST DRIVE - Part 3

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.


YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

[Susan has no frame of reference for that, but she's a quick study] Is that all it's used for? [Because she can think of about twenty more uses right off the bat] It sounds incredible.

Definitely not! You can use it for all sorts of things! I know that if you look around here a little bit, you can probably find a computer with limited internet and see for yourself! Though it might be kind of expensive.

[girl_at_the_window]

Oh. [The smile falls off her face] I... I don't have any money.

That's okay! It's not too hard to get a job here or ask people if they need some help! And I am also sure that somebody would be willing to let you borrow their computer for a bit if you ask nicely.

Do you think so?

I mean, I've got some skills, I guess. Aunt Cordy said I was useless, but Aunt Cordy said a lot of things. Ain't really had a job, though. Not one I had to go and find, anyroad.

[Jade just met this girl, but she is not going to let anybody be down on themselves, even indirectly.]

I know so! Don't listen to Aunt Cordy! You can do anything that you set your mind to!

And if you want, I could help you look around for some place to work. There are lots of shops that would be happy to have you help out, I bet.

[Susan laughs suddenly, then puts her hand over her mouth, blushing] Cry pardon. It's just that I thought... it's funny, isn't it, the people we meet. [By which she means it's funny that she's getting advice on community issues from a girl who grew up alone on an island]

I'd love that. Thankee-sai.

[Jade doesn't really get why she's laughing, but Susan doesn't seem to be laughing at her, so she doesn't worry too much about it.]

I guess it is kind of funny!

And what does Thankee-sai mean? Is that just a fancy way of saying thank you?

Something like that, aye. It's just the polite way of saying thankya, where I'm from. [And she really does say thankya, her already thick accent thicker than ever on that word]

That's pretty cool! I do not know if I know a polite way of saying thank you. Thank you very much, I guess?

[She shrugs. The intricacies of language have never really been her thing.]

Where are you from, then? I cannot place your accent at all!

[girl_at_the_window]

Hambry. In the Barony of Mejis. Doubt you'd kennit, it's a small sort of place.

Yeah, I've never heard of it! I guess I would tell you where I was from, but I don't think my island had a name. My friends liked to call it Hellmurder Island, though.

[girl_at_the_window]

[Despite herself, Susan laughs] A cheery sort of place, then?

Well, I thought it was perfectly cheery! They just like making jokes about it, even though they have never been there.

[girl_at_the_window]

People like to make jokes about things they don't know. Sometimes it's easier than joking about the things you do.

That is very insightful, and I think you are definitely right. I did not really mind them joking about it, though! It is just not really accurate, is all.

[girl_at_the_window]

[Susan smiles a little] No hell or murder, then?

[cuteandquarky]

Nope! Well, okay, maybe a little... There was a volcano there. It was dormant while I lived there, but I guess that's kind of hell-like?

[Also, her grandfather was technically murdered there, but that's not a detail she normally shares with strangers.]

[girl_at_the_window]

Not really. That's just... nature, isn't it?

I guess you're right! I do not know how natural the volcano was, actually, but either way. No hell or murder!

[girl_at_the_window]

Sounds like a nice place, then. [Wry little smile] I still can't imagine it, though, say true. To grow up alone. Not even your parents?

[cuteandquarky]

Nope! Just me and Bec. I don't really have parents.

[Well, she does in the strictest sense, but the circumstances of Jade's birth are confusing even to people in the same universe as her, let along to outsiders.]

[girl_at_the_window]

Nor do I, any more. [She gives Jade a sympathetic smile, totally misinterpreting. Obviously your parents are dead. That's what you mean, right?]

[Even if Jade doesn't mind not having parents, she can tell that Susan probably had some and then lost them. She tries to be comforting.]

Well... you know, sometimes people you thought were dead show up here! So maybe you will be able to see them again?

[Jade has no idea how likely it is, but it's certainly possible, right?]

[...without context, you probably won't understand why that makes Susan laugh. Or why that laugh is quite so choked and lacking in humour]

I guess... I guess sometimes they do. [And she wipes a tear from her eye]
