TEST DRIVE - Part 3
Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.
Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.
How this works:
☆ This is a test drive for
cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.
☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.
☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.
☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.
☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.
☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.
YOUR OPTIONS:
☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!
☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.
☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.
☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.
You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.
Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

Nikki Ann-Marie - HuniePop - This Is A Terrible, Terrible Idea
2: Nikki isn't in the town, per se. Oh, she occasionally ventures out to get coffee or to apply for jobs - barista work, because she knows it well enough. But that's not where she's spending most of her incredibly stressful time in the new weird place she's found herself after jumping in a hole, a hole made JUST FOR HER. She's read enough creepy pasta and enough of one particular manga to be deeply on edge.
So she's burning off her nervousness at the arcade, on the dance machines, pinball, fighting games, or on the bullet hell machines. She's good at it, although she does swear under her breath when she messily explodes in her SHMUPs. Bother her? Join her?
3: She isn't asking people to play. She got caught by someone asking, having never actually touched the giant gem. (Also, she's wearing fingerless gloves now; that's odd.)
She snorts. "Two truths and a lie. Really? You first." Then under her breath: "This is so stupid."
And so it begins again for the first time for the second time
You're really good at this! I think that's the highest high score I've ever seen!
disregard canon, acquire steven
The Dread Lord Arengee has been kind with this girl's bullet patterns. Plus I figured out all the hidden score multipliers. This game likes it when you graze, and get right up in their stupid catgirl faces.
Fortunately, acquiring Steven is the easiest sidequest ever
[It was like she was actively taunting the game. The bullets passed right through her character, but...instead of exploding, the points just racked up more and more. It was like watching a fight where one person had an overwhelming advantage over the bad guy.]
You're amazing.
I am vaguely describing a very specific free bullet-hell game)
See that dot? That's the only part of you that can actually blow up.
(And the stupid catgirl faced-catgirl ruins the moment by spawining a bullet right on top of that dot. It starts counting down from 5.)
Shitshitshi-!
(DEPLOYING GIANT MOON LASER BOMB THING.)
no subject
That was awesome! I thought it was over for sure, but you had it totally under control!! Is...is this your gem power?
[Who DIDN'T want their gem power to be being inhumanly good at video games? That...that just seemed like an obvious choice right there.]
no subject
(Yes, this internet refugee just said that - but wait a second, Steven just said something important - she wrings her hands and takes off her glove as the boss explodes into little blue paper charms and the cutscene/rank screen begins.
They aren't all S+. In fact, she's got a B on enemies. Progress needs to be made.)
Wait, this thing - (she holds up an agate on her palm) gives you superpowers? How do YOU know?
no subject
Well, I'm a Crystal Gem, I've been one all my life! See?
[And he'll lift his shirt a little so she could see the Rose Quartz stuck above where his belly button would be.]
Well...I guess its more like these gems ARE us, and our bodies are just projections they make. But we do have powers! Like me, I can make shields!
[And as an example, he'll raise his arm up and focus on the desire to protect the people around him, causing the gem to light up as a circular pink shield manifested in front of him.]
See? Pretty cool, isn't it?
no subject
She reaches out to touch the shield. Hey, dumb, but she can't believe her eyes. Her fingers, she can believe.)
Okay, where the hell is this place and why am I here? I'm just some wageslave that slacks off at the arcade. I'm nothing special.
(...Nikki no)
no subject
Well...this is Waverly Bay. I guess the Gem Heart in the temple has been bringing people in from all sorts of different worlds to help deal with the problems here, or at least that's what we think. No one really knows why it picks certain people, but I do know one thing.
[And his face will light up like a Christmas tree, the way happy kids seem to be able to.]
You definitely are special! I've never met anyone who can ace games like you can, not even the other gems!
no subject
(Wow, Nikki.)
So unless my masterful ability to press buttons and get points is going to help people, I think the Heart messed up.
I'm sorry Nikki, he believes in you too hard to be dissuaded at this point
Well, I know some people aren't really that nice, so it sounds like you have a whole lot of patience to me. And maybe they will help people, I'm definitely sure you can figure it out...and I'll even help too! If you're good at selling things, I can talk to my friend Jane and maybe she can hire you at her bakery! She's kinda down on hands at the moment, so I'm sure she'd be happy for the help!

I didn't actually tell you my name, did I? It's Nikki.

Out of the corner of her eye she spots Nikki at the SHMUP machine before dashing on over to her right as her game ends. She stands behind her on her tip-toes, grinning. It'd be even more fun to play with someone, right?]
Heeeey, you wanna go 2-player on that game over there? [She says pointing to the DDR machine.] I've got extra tokens~!
okay where can i watch her canon because this is glorious
Well, at least you waited for the clear. Whoever puts in the tokens chooses the songs, right?
(She smirks and puts her own on the counter. As one does.) You first.
I'll PM you a link!
[With Star on one of the dance pads and Nikki on the other, she puts her tokens into the machine and browses the selection of songs.]
Ooo, this one looks fun!
[She presses the button and steps back, bouncing a little in place from excitement as the game loads the first stage.]
Re: I'll PM you a link!
Regardless, this is a game and Nikki is going to acquit herself honorably, even if it's to 119 BPM pop diabetes. All of her focus is on dancing.
no subject
Once the song ends she cheers again and turns to Nikki with a huge smile on her face.]
That. Was. AWESOME~! It even said we were "marvelous"! You're such a good video game dancer!
What song should we do next? ... Oh my gosh, how about this one?! It's my name!
