TEST DRIVE - Part 3

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for [community profile] cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.

YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

[Karkat yelps and flails back, and only just managed not to tip over in his struggle for balance post-collision. He doesn't recognize this woman. Then again, he doesn't recognize a lot of the people here. He'd be apt to yell at her right back, but she cuts him off with advice. Pretty useful advice, at that.]

[For once in his life, Karkat listens, nods, and turns his course to dart off the way she pointed... only to slow to a stop a few steps in. It's the beach, alright, but beyond is the bay and the ocean it connects to. He stares openly, and after a second or two the flames ease and flicker out.]

Is that the sea--?

[Wait a minute. He lifts his hands, and yep, fine, no burns, no fire, nothing.]

Okay, what just happened? Do you know? But because last I was aware, I was definitely not immune to fire on my body.

[The woman followed as the boy ran, and wondered why he stopped. She was about to say something when she saw the flames flicker out. Crisis averted?]

[She hung back a moment, giving him space to process the scene. Though she knows nothing about who he is or where he came from, a part of Celes wanted to believe that this was significant for some reason. She knew better than to disrupt his thoughts.]

[However long they lasted. Ah. So he's the types that could only focus on one thing at a time?]

Your focus was broken and the fire diminished. It would seem the fire was your own make.

Where I am from, we would call fire that does not burn the one that summoned it magic. Does that mean anything to you?

[Well, forget the ocean for now. He's never seen it in person before, but it's not about to vanish behind him, unlike the subject (literally) at hand.]

[But as for magic...]

Ugh. Look, no, we're not calling it magic. Magic just calls to mind stupid arguments over whether magic is real or not and two friends of mine who I'm pretty sure aren't here. Let's just backtrack to the first point, because what do you mean, my own make? I don't make fire, not like that, and I tell you right now that if I ever had the ability then some things in my life would have either been a whole lot harder or a whole lot easier.

[At that the girl folded her arms.]

I have no problems discussing things with you, but can we please keep this to one topic at a time? I would rather finish one thought before moving to another if you do not mind.

[Seeing as the discussion of magic is going to probably make him lose focus again, she decided to forgo that direction for another time and focus on the task at hand.]

To the second point, let me be frank. I have no idea what you were or were not able to do but when your mind focused elsewhere your... problem ceased.

Whatever you wish to call it, [She raised her hand to her side.] whenever one manifests an ability at will or otherwise... [In a flash a blade appeared where there wasn't any.] Then what else can it be but the manifestation of one's own will?

[She swishes the blade to the side before returning it to a hilt that would have been around her waist. Instead, the sword vanishes back into the ether.]

But I am open to counter-suggestions. If there are any.
