TEST DRIVE - Part 3
Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.
Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.
How this works:
☆ This is a test drive for
cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.
☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.
☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.
☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.
☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.
☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.
YOUR OPTIONS:
☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!
☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.
☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.
☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.
You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.
Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

Option A
[She feels like she's seen this pony before... not personally, but perhaps in a book. No matter, they were a gem now. The usual magic would not be an issue... yet. It always depends on the path they take.]
Those bubbles contain corrupted gems while we work to cure them.
no subject
Bipeds. Where do they come from?]
Explain.
[It's not exactly .. rude, but it has a sense of one used to being obeyed promptly.]
'Corrupted gems'? How do you cure something inert?
no subject
[And yeah, that sharpness doesn't have her talking immediately.]
Gems here are actually sentient beings from another planet. Most of the time, they're normal - like you, or like me. The corrupted gems in this chamber however ended up turning into monsters.
no subject
The information he's given of course sounds like complete and utter griffon scat, but he doesn't say so. There's something in the angle of his ears and expression on his face that suggests a bit of it, even if the rest of his expression is cooled into impassive neutrality.]
I am uncertain 'normal, like you and me' and a floating gem in a bubble works as a comparison.
[Monster, however. Wasn't that what he'd aimed for, stripping the alicorns of their evil? Ponies didn't have fangs. But nothing of this gem suggested evil. It just looked like a gem in a bubble. He studies it with a faint frown.]
Define ... 'monster'.
no subject
[She gestures to the large, unbubbled gem in the center of the chamber which all the bubbles just hover around.]
Well, as I explained, the gems are conscious beings who take physical form at will and of their choice, and power is granted to them through it. The corrupted gems here, to be defined as monsters, they've lost their thoughts, the ability to control their forms, and they begin attacking everything. They could be destroyed - in fact, some may prefer that - but the gem they once were is still somewhere inside.
no subject
But that one free gem really did lend further to the idea that this might be the Crystal Empire. Didn't they too have a crystal heart? Sombra regretted not asking the last time he'd visited.]
You did not explain this before.
[It's said rather mildly, about the same way one might say the grass is green or the sky is blue.
Mindlessness and aggression mean monster to these people then. That was generally understandable, rampaging things, once friendly or not, were dangerous. And possibly he had one on his body somewhere.]
Then they are parasites? Who chose to imprison them here instead of putting them out of their suffering?
no subject
[It would be nice if more people exercised patience. Then again, sometimes, she's one to talk.]
The original gems here have chosen to bubble them. Like this, they are unable to regenerate a physical form.
no subject
[Therefore it wasn't as she had already explained. Patience is for other ponies. His ears perk forward a little when she neither confirms nor denies that these gems are parasites. It's noteworthy, as far as Sombra is concerned.
He'll have to weigh the benefits versus the drawbacks. Inevitably they'd be there.]
Where are the original gems? Is this the Crystal Empire?
no subject
The original gems... Those would be the ones who've been here the longest. No, this isn't the Crystal Empire. This Temple is located near Waverly Bay.
no subject
I asked where, not who.
[The unicorn inspects one hoof almost absently. He's going to have to get new shoes soon. Waverly Bay wasn't somewhere he'd heard of, but there were plenty of places he hadn't.]

[There is a smile, and it puts on display all those teeth that don't belong in a pony's mouth. But it fades to sober thoughtfulness quickly enough; probably he's not thinking of all the fangs and jagged teeth that go with the expression.]
My greatest advisor had the wisdom of the centuries she'd lived. I could ask for no better advice at any given time than what Luna's insight could offer me, until her sister's evil tainted her.
[His head tilts back, to study the bubble he'd sniffed, the oval gem glittering peacefully inside in pretty shades of blue.]
'Trust', she'd always advised me.
[Suddenly he rears back, the sharp scythe of his horn ripping through the bubble like a knife through butter, allowing the imprisoned gem tumble groundwards.]
'Trust but verify.'
[That and well, he didn't really care anymore. Not about any of them. This biped wasn't one of his ponies, traitors or otherwise. She certainly wasn't sweet missing Celestia.
The gem plinks to the ground, and a moment later reforms itself, its outline momentarily humanoid before coalescing into a more doglike shape.. if dogs were covered in icelike spines at any rate, the gem neatly sealing itself between its shoulderblades.
Unfortunately, Naomi is the thing it spots first. And when it had been bubbled, it had likely been very angry. It still is, by the screech it emits as it pounces, its breath bitter cold even from several feet away.]
no subject
[Of course she would have done similarly perhaps. Some version of her more interested in obtaining the truth first hand. However, if someone told her dangerous creatures were houses inside, she would reconsider.]
[However, her he is not. The bubble pops and the monster is already out, facing her. She is not a gem capable of fighting, but she is capable of thinking. That, and this still isn't Equinnity. Scream all it wants, a hand waving over chest - over the purple star-shaped gem - and the barrier comes out, one side tilted to catch and slide the dog into a second barrier as she moves around, placing herself between ice mutt and the dark pony.]
You really need to take someone's words as truth sometimes.
no subject
[The unicorn seems content to stay where he is and watch the ice-creature bounce off the barrier that appears. It doesn't deter the beast at all, which bounces right to its feet and begins immediately looking for a way around the two walls, Naomi still its focus; if one way doesn't work it'll simply try the other or up and over.
Trusting strangers was something he did often, once.]
That would be the 'verify' part, wouldn't it. There's no way to be certain until it's proved, and if you cannot be believed in the minor things..
[But it seems at least she was right about these ...gem monsters being contained. Perhaps he should release more of them. This one hasn't taken much notice of him yet, possibly because he's simply not moving and non-moving targets aren't as tempting.]
no subject
[Just as she thought. One of those kinds, and she may as well finish this fast before he does anything else foolish. The dog's looking for an out, but she's looking for the weakest point on its body. She's chopped a few heads off before and she'll just do the same now. Another hand over her chest, she brings the first two to begin folding in with the third ready and spinning.]
no subject
And he was definitely going to have to look for one of those parasite gems and see about excising it.
The ice beastie meanwhile doesn't seem content to wait to be squashed, it exhales a sudden shower of jagged ice spikes in a hail of sharp pointy coldness, spraying up and down as well as outward; if the barriers don't bend very fast, a good bit of that ice is going to get past in one direction or another.
Naomi herself might not get hit, but there's plenty of other bubbles at risk..]
no subject
[Not good; these barriers won't be able to survive for too long if this battle drags on, but she can't let that show.]
