TEST DRIVE - Part 3

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for [community profile] cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.

YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

[He blinks slowly.]

Very well. Firstly, if you haven't noticed already, you'll find that there's now a gemstone grafted somewhere on your body. Much like the ones you've doubtlessly noticed on others, myself included.

*She gestures somewhat vaguely towards herself; the hexagon of ametrine planted in her forehead is likely obvious enough that she doesn't need to point it out.*

To put it plainly, that gem is now the most important part of your body. The rest of your current physical form is supposedly nothing more than a mere magical projection. If you're seriously injured, that form will dissipate, and your consciousness retreat back into your gem so that you can recover.

...However... if anything damages your gem itself... well. That complicates matters significantly.

gem?

[He looks on his hands and down his shirt, he hasn't seen a gem anywhere.

Of course, he's not gonna find it anytime soon, since, his gem, a round chunk of Seraphinite (yes, really), is set in his left eyesocket.]

well, i'm a monster, i've always been made of magic, so that's not all that weird.

Some are better hidden than others. It's hard to say whether yours will be in the same place or not, or even the same type of gem. All that truly matters is that you know where it is, and keep an eye on it.

...We do have healers who are capable of mending damaged gems. However, they must be treated as quickly as possible. Those with cracked gems will eventually lose control of their forms, or worse, wind up broken or corrupted.

...Much like the ones you saw bubbled back in the Heart Chambers.

right, right, keep an eye on my gem, don't let it get hurt, i think i got all that.

[He rubs the back of his neck.]

so, uh, is there any reason why we're being brought here, or is it just, y'know, because?

...Unfortunately, all we have now are working theories more than anything else.

The general presumption seems to be that we've been brought here in order to deal with the local monster problem. All of the bubbled stones belong to gems who are badly broken and corrupted, and appear to have been such for a long period of time. It's possible they're remnants from some ancient conflict; there are natural Gems -- Gems who were always meant to be this way, as opposed to people who've been plucked from their homes and converted such as we were -- who may or may not make up the bulk of those corrupted monsters. As I said, currently we have very little in the way of solid, trustworthy information.

Outside the Temple, you'll find a town called Waverly Bay. The locals appear to be ordinary, powerless humans, just trying to get by. Most of us believe that part of the reason we're here is to protect them. Defeat the monsters and keep them safe.

*After a pause, she adds:* ...Some take that further, believing that we're also here to try and save the monsters as well. They argue that if we were just here to stop them, we'd be expected to shatter their gems, not just bubble them. To that end, they hope to find some way of curing the corruption and restoring all of them to their proper forms.

[Sans scratches his cheekbone as he takes in her information.]

look, i'm gonna level with you here, if these rock people were looking for a monster hunter or something, they, uh, got the wrong guy.

[He puts an odd emphasis on the word "monster", if only because, well, he is a monster.]

also, i don't think i ever got your name?

Oh, my apologies. It's Velvet.

...And yes. Honestly, I'm in much the same position as you. I don't exactly have any experience with fighting, nor any particular desire to. While our gems grant us new abilities to replace what we've lost, I can't say that anything I've learned has made me more confident about the notion of having to fight some poor, corrupted beast...

i'm used to rolling with punches though, i'm sure i'll figure out something to do.

Mmn. Yes. For the time being, I've been concentrating on gathering as much information about the bubbled and corrupted gems as I possibly can. If nothing else, maintaining an inventory list should prove useful if anything happens in there...
