When it first came up, I thought it was a good idea... mainly because I was very confused about the circumstances surrounding it. At the time, I thought that certain characters were actually already being held in reserve until their players could return and that the rest of us just hadn't been informed about that.
In other words, I thought this was already happening, and that the Temp Drop system was just a way of letting everyone KNOW what was going on. That it was simply telling folks that the players involved were on an extended hiatus. Getting everything out in the open and 'on the record', as it were.
That said, I completely agree with dropping it entirely. If anyone does need to go on an extended hiatus, that should be something they discuss with the mods instead of just sticking their muses on there and letting them sit. Losing CR is saddening, sure, but leaving a character in limbo indefinitely seems sadder. Especially when we've already had several great examples of somebody new bringing in their take on a character who's come and gone, and all the CR potential that came along with that...
