TEST DRIVE - Part 3

Maybe you've been here for a while, or maybe you just got here. Either way, you're all in the same situation - you've been turned into a magical gemstone and stranded in a foreign world! And all you've been left with is the clothes on your back, stripped of all powers except one.

Clearly, you’ll just have to make the best of it.

How this works:

☆ This is a test drive for cosmographia, which means you should get a little familiar with the setting and premise.

☆ Otherwise, this is just meant to help you feel out how you may play and serves mainly as a chill interest gathering and get together kind of post! No app necessary, and you don't need to play in this post to apply - or vice versa.

☆ Everybody is welcome! There are no character limitations; pg au oc canon pigeon whatever. Just toss up a topcomment and/or jump any threads that pique your interest.

☆ This post will remain open until it begins to approach 5000 comments! Then a new test-drive post will be made.

☆ Rules-wise: Be cool to yourself and others, and keep in mind the other game rules too.

☆ If you do apply to the game and are accepted, and you want to keep the CR, you may so long as what you did isn't setting breaking and everyone involved agrees.


YOUR OPTIONS:

☆ You find yourself in the Heart of a ruined temple. There is a large glowing gem that thrums with some kind of rhythm, and jewels scattered all over the room, kept in strange bubbles. At the very least, touching the large gem will give you a standard info-dump, but some of you might be a little cautious about touching weird luminescent gems. Good thing that there are other people there too!

☆ Or perhaps you already know everything there is to know, and are there in the Heart of the Ruined Temple to greet new arrivals. Or perhaps you simply had business there already, like storing away a corrupted gem from a monster, when someone new seemingly dropped in from no where.

☆ It's Farmer's Market day in the plaza of Waverly Bay! Perhaps you're there perusing the goods and strike up conversation, or accidentally bump into someone and get to know them that way. It's a fairly standard day.

☆ There's an event! You don't really know what else to call them - missions, perhaps? But something in the temple was triggered, and the glowy Heart gem has something new to "tell" you: If you want a new power, you should try telling other people two truths and a lie. Those who you interact with must try and divine the lie from your statements.

You have no idea how something this simple will get you a power, but hey.

The former, though I suppose I could try teaching you the latter as well if you're really curious.

I find that I'm curious about a lot of things. Like how does the economy sustain itself? Or why don't the creatures here have any attacks? But that aside, how about these?

I was kidnapped by a space cult once.
I only took eight tries to become league champion.
My Altaria was raised by Eevee.

Yeah, actually. But my girlfriend was. We got her out, though, at least, but that was kind of a major disaster? Though my world's had a lot of major disasters. I'd give you my field notes, but I left them at home and it would probably take years to read anyway.

...I'm rather curious what sort of world you come from now...

It's a little chaotic, but we're trying to put it back UP+RIGHT. Some of us, anyway. If you have questions, I can answer them!

I suppose to start: what are Altaria and Eevee?

[domeinion]

Oh, they're Pokémon -- I keep forgetting not all worlds have them! Altaria are big cloud birds, and Eevee are little fuzzy things, sort of like... what are they called here, cats or foxes? Like those, a little. My dad really liked them.

If it helps, I can relate - my world had fairies in them, and the world connected to it was filled with spirits. It's a little strange to not see them here.

[she smiles fondly for a moment.]

What's a league champion?

[domeinion]

Oh, it's a big authority in the region and the strongest trainer with the best team. I had that title for a while, but I had something important to do.

[waxinglight]

Something important? Is that why you're here?

[she sort of gets the impression that the Heart just yanks people because it wants to...]

[domeinion]

Sort of. It is a prime research opportunity to actually go into another world, and that's the kind of thing we're working on now at home! But back then, I was more trying to just get my own world fixed.

[waxinglight]

Did something bad happen to it?

[the distinct phrasing makes her wonder...]

[domeinion]

Have you ever heard of a randomizer?

[waxinglight]

A what?

[she's. only vaguely familiar with a computer...]

[domeinion]

It's a device someone built to change some things in their past. It rewound the world and made it so that everything changed. People died when they should've lived and lived when they should've died, personalities and memories started to change, fish were walking around on land. The world couldn't sustain itself like that.

[waxinglight]

That's horrible...

[she can't even imagine something like that, and she was definitely in the "destroy the entire world" camp once.]

How did that happen?

[it couldn't have been out of the blue, right?]

[domeinion]

He spent a hundred years building it after gaining immortality, then activated it just after someone I knew confronted him. In the new world, we all thought everything was normal at first. I only learned otherwise with the Voices and then went out to study all the changes to the world. They needed to send me on a journey, anyway, to fix things.

He? Voices?

[this is sounding worse and worse by the second...]

[domeinion]

I guess it's a really, really long story. But that's okay! He's just the person who built it. He's... well, he's gone now, anyway.

[waxinglight]

I see...

[that choice of phrasing doesn't escape her, but it seems almost inappropriate to pry...]

You said something about a space cult? How did that factor into everything?

[domeinion]

They weren't related to the Randomizer or anything like that. It was mostly Napoleon dealing with them directly, but since they took Teala, I had to be in there on another side, too. But they were threatening the world's stability, too, trying to open up a void to where the Voices come in from. Oh, the Voices are a mob of thousands or tens of thousands of minds that act as a hive mind directing one host at a time. They're not as bad as they sound anymore, but sometimes they kind of suck at their job.

[well that sounds utterly nightmarish.]

So you were controlled by those voices? Do they still bother you now?

[she can't imagine sharing your head with so many voices at once...]

Yes, I was a host once, actually. They're not in my head anymore, but there are a few vestigial habits we all have, so you won't B+RIGHT the way they found you. Mostly walking into walls, a few speech things. You get used to the patterns and they never quite leave. How did you know I'd been one?
