HOW'S THE GAME?

Welcome to Cosmographia's first "How's the Game"! This is essentially an open forum for discussion about where to take the game from here and anything that might need changing. A lot has happened in the past week and going forward we feel it's more important than ever to have a discussion like this.

This is not a place for criticism of specific players or characters. This is purely about the game itself. Please save player specific criticisms for the upcoming How's My Driving. Any disregard for this or out of hand conduct will be frozen or deleted.

We are inviting not just all current players (old and new) to participate in this discussion but also past players that have left and new potential players considering the game; we encourage everyone to pitch in their two cents. That being said, since this is the game's first HTG we are currently going to do it without anon or sock journals (for future HTG this may change).

Like said this is a completely open forum. We have a list of topics we want to discuss (listed below), but after all those have gone up players are completely free to start their own threads with anything not covered by the other sections.

Current sections (please wait until all these are up and linked to post your own they're all up now!):

I'm seconding the post-event power request notion. I think a proposal system would work best - for each event, a power-post could be put up in the ooc comm for players who participated in the event to respond to, with the power they would like their character to receive. Players could fill out a brief little form explaining what the power is (and what it's limitations are) and the mods could give it a stamp of approval if it's acceptable or ask for revisions if it's problematic in some way.

That said, I think it would be pretty handy to have a power-roster, so that players can see what powers other characters have amassed all in one convenient list. It would also be a good way for new and potential players to see what sort of abilities the game already has in abundance, so we can keep the ratio of powerhouses/speedsters/healers etc somewhat balanced.

I also think it might be a good idea to have all our current players list what powers they've already given their characters, just to make sure no one's current abilities are crossing the line a bit, since there really hasn't been any specific restrictions/limitations until now. I haven't really seen anyone give their character a power that's too godmoddy myself, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.

This seems like a good way to handle it to me, though the power roster might get a little confusing with some of the heavily character-specific abilities I've seen around. Though that said, a lot of those specific abilities can fall under more general categories, so maybe a very general kind of power list for reference's sake? I'm not really sure how that would work, tbh...

But I'm all for having approvals on new powers and maybe also a quick review of all the current powers floating around in the game. If nothing else, it'll set our minds at ease that we're not going too far!

In class rn so my response is going to be a little scattershot/not make a whole lot of sense BUUUUT re: the listing the powers stuff I think that's how the permissions posts are also supposed to be used for? Since they have a space in the code for listing that stuff.

Unfortunately it's on the player to keep that up to date and not everyone does (I'm guilty of being behind on it). I'm all for exploring the possibility of an alternative but if the game grows substantially then it might be difficult for mods to do all the upkeep on that themselves. It unfortunately may have to fall completely on players to keep their power lists up again.

That is indeed an issue with the listings of abilities... (Also guilty)

The permissions post for some is also for keeping any conflicts over a potentially abusable power from getting out of hand I think, but I think that one also falls on the players...
