HOW'S THE GAME?

Welcome to Cosmographia's first "How's the Game"! This is essentially an open forum for discussion about where to take the game from here and anything that might need changing. A lot has happened in the past week and going forward we feel it's more important than ever to have a discussion like this.

This is not a place for criticism of specific players or characters. This is purely about the game itself. Please save player specific criticisms for the upcoming How's My Driving. Any disregard for this or out of hand conduct will be frozen or deleted.

We are inviting not just all current players (old and new) to participate in this discussion but also past players that have left and new potential players considering the game; we encourage everyone to pitch in their two cents. That being said, since this is the game's first HTG we are currently going to do it without anon or sock journals (for future HTG this may change).

Like said this is a completely open forum. We have a list of topics we want to discuss (listed below), but after all those have gone up players are completely free to start their own threads with anything not covered by the other sections.

Current sections (please wait until all these are up and linked to post your own they're all up now!):

The Staff
Applications
Setting Suggestions
The World Outside Waverly Bay/Potential World Plot
Event Schedule/Power Distribution
Player Plot Approval

As much as I really want my character (and potential future characters) to develop their powers, something new every month does seem a little much. Spreading it out to bimonthly might be a good way of slowing it down a little bit while hopefully still having that regular aspect to it for people who liked the current system.

One thing I do wonder about though is the distinction between gaining new powers, and gaining new abilities for powers a character already has, which I've seen people use events for already. For instance, a character with a weapon summoning power learning new types, or a limited shapeshifter learning to expand their skills a bit. If actual new powers are going to become more restricted, maybe there could be alternative means of "leveling up" powers the character already has? Either a gamewide mechanic or up to player discretion (such as my original Rise idea in Exsilium, where she gained new abilities based on relationships with others as they grew closer). Most DWRP players seem to be trustworthy in terms of not doing too much too fast, in my experience, so I think the playerbase can probably be trusted with minor upgrades like that at their own discretion.

Right, I've done that with Ichigo already, when she gained the ability to summon multiple copies of her battle fans as her reward/upgrade one month. And in the future, I'd like for her to earn the ability to set her fans on fire/convert them into flames...

And Velvet... part of my long-term plan with her involves her getting her Gem Weapon, and many of her power upgrades serving as upgrades/new abilities requiring said weapon. So for both of them, having an alternative means of leveling up their powers leads to interesting implications...
