How's The Game

HOW'S THE GAME?


Welcome to Cosmographia's first "How's the Game"! This is essentially an open forum for discussion about where to take the game from here and anything that might need changing. A lot has happened in the past week and going forward we feel it's more important than ever to have a discussion like this.

This is not a place for criticism of specific players or characters. This is purely about the game itself. Please save player specific criticisms for the upcoming How's My Driving. Any disregard for this or out of hand conduct will be frozen or deleted.

We are inviting not just all current players (old and new) to participate in this discussion but also past players that have left and new potential players considering the game; we encourage everyone to pitch in their two cents. That being said, since this is the game's first HTG we are currently going to do it without anon or sock journals (for future HTG this may change).

Like said this is a completely open forum. We have a list of topics we want to discuss (listed below), but after all those have gone up players are completely free to start their own threads with anything not covered by the other sections.

As someone who's updated both my characters before, I definitely agree with this. Personally, I'd suggest something like Ryslig's system where canon updates are posted to the app page under a seperate form that briefly surmises the update without needing to relink the app (or drop and reapply).

Likewise, having to kill a character to update seems to have pretty much become a thing, which seems a little much for a lighthearted game like this one. I certainly agree that visions/dream or overnight disappearances and returns and stuff like that would be a helpful addition to that.

This please! I'm totally all for players using Gemming a character to coincide with a canon update if they want to but if it's only one of two options to choose from it feels a bit restrictive and I agree that it seems a little off-tone too honestly. Being able to do something a little less drastic than dying or disappearing from the in-game world for however long would be awesome and also kinda refreshing.

AT THE RISK OF LEANING ON MY OTHER GAME I kind of like Ryslig's method of what are effectively very lifelike dreams of the events back home, so while certain major updates could have the character sent home/depart for a while, more minor ones could use something like that instead (and given the Heart Gem and how the gems work in general, hell, "prophetic visions" or something of the sort would fit right in). But yeah, how much canon updating has become synonymous with dying (I know it wasn't intentional, but it does seem to be A Thing) does feel really off-kilter with the tone of the game to me.

Yes! I would definitely be in favor of that Prophetic Visions/Future Sight-y idea there being utilized in some way for canon updates. The worst case scenario I could see would be having a character IC-ly believe that what they dreamed or experienced wasn't real but perhaps that could be part of the fun!
