THE MUSICAL MOTIF MEME

"Each Gem in Steven Universe possesses a certain musical motif that plays during certain parts of the show. When Gems fuse, their musical motifs merge into a completely different genre of music."

As Cosmographia is based on Steven Universe, a few people, including myself, thought it would be cool to have a meme based around the idea of the musical motifs that are present in the show! There's not a whole lot of restrictions here: link your character's theme song, any theme songs for fusions that are associated with them, or simply use this as a way to pimp out cool music from your canon!

Ahem. So serious talk. Arc V's soundtrack tends to set the mood of the scene. Character themes despite their name aren't necessarily used in ONLY that character's scenes. Such as a certain protag's pendulum theme playing during Yugo's winning move in episode 72.

I'm no music nerd when it comes to descriptions, but stuff that seems to suit Yugo's style is whatever evokes a feeling of speed, a fast paced and dramatic.... uh... orchestrated trance(?) music, such as "Latest and Greatest Evolution in Dueling"

So if you fuse with Yugo, expect whatever theme that results to be dripping with awesome.

so, Coven actually has this pretty creepy and awesome leitmotif that's basically always playing in the back of my head when I tag. someone on spotify also collected all the actual songs used. think house of the rising sun and fleetwood mac and that's basically coven's aesthetic.

Roland doesn't have his own themes since Dark Tower is a book series, but I tend to go with Bassoforte for him. Fusion themes really just need to keep the twang. The twang is essential.

As a bonus I have a whole 8tracks playlist for him here. The other two intro tracks, Spike In a Rail and Gunpowder Chant, are secondary themes I like to use for him.

My personal fave song for Jade is Umbral Ultimatum because it's GORGEOUS but she's got a lot of other associated songs because Homestuck is pretty music-heavy!

Music associated with Rick thematically tends to take after works of sci-fi and chiptune, reflecting his own overblown genius nature. The genre tends to vary, but his songs typically bleed tales of his genius nature - extremely fast-paced.

His main leitmotif is the Rick and Morty theme.

Also, this song needs to be what plays when he inevitably fuses with Ford.

Dave has a lot of themes. Too many, honestly. I alternate between them when I'm tagging as him.

As for the Batter, OFF's entire soundtrack is amazing, but outside of that soundtrack I also like to attribute these two songs to him.

Yg'baladoth is an OC, and yet because I've had her for SO STINKING LONG I actually have a few themes for her (especially since her realm is sound eheh).

Depth by Sasukeshika is an excellent tune which includes a downright strange and foreign sounds. And AKLO's Beyond Madness is a good example of how SHE screws with sound.

Lastly, Shevat the Wind is Calling provides a good counterpoint of how she controls and organizes her being. In fact, later on she'll get the ability to crystallize sound into a physical form, and I'd imagine music that she'd make and construct for herself.

SOUNDTRACK MEEEEEEME

Do I need to link Garnet's stuff, give me a heads up and I will link Garnet's stuff, IIRC her instrument motif is like some kind of synth bass

But OTOH Pit's game has some awesome orchestral stuff and everyone needs to listen to it!

The first chapter is probably the closest thing to a theme for Pit, but I'm going to also link the Reaper's Line of Sight from the fourth chapter. It's my favorite and really embodies the whole feel of the game best for me? Starts off as a bouncy and orchestral cover of a song from the original NES game, and then goes into prog rock or synth metal or whatever you wanna call what Trans-Siberian Orchestra is because that's what it sounds like.

And also here's a theme for that one time Pit was a dog because it's pretty darn catchy.

If we're going to start talking about other good songs and blending musical motifs, Pit's sound is very orchestral (with gratuitous triplet notes) and his instrument-motif thing is violins.

Sunset has a theme! My Past Is Not Today, some triumphant noise about her downfall as a villain and rebirth as a decent human. Most of her melodies feature her favorite instrument, guitar.

Strong Bad's theme is...probably kitschy synth, like this: the instrumental of his theme from the game. Trogdor-style riffs are too cool for him, he's ridiculous.

Doc doesn't seem to have an official theme or any song connected to him specifically, so I can only speculate. I think a piece from the spaghetti western theremin orchestra is appropriate---simultaneously futuristic and old-fashioned like he is.

WEIRD SCIENCE IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE RICK SONGS. For some reason, a lot of songs by Oingo Boingo-ish bands remind me of him?? The main ones I can think of on the top of my head are Road Trip by Ninja Sex Party, Dragon Slayer by the same band, and I Am A Scientist by The Dandy Warhols.

So I'm thinking Vernian Process for a fusion theme.

Behold the Machine combines his strong measured beat with her more flowery and orchestral style; it's menacing and also full of bells.

The Exile is slower, has clearer twang, but is slower and less threatening.

Vagues De Vapeur is probably the best choice thought lbr. I mean just. Just listen to that.

As for her themes as a fusion, her music would be either a zither or a glass harmonica for a good fusion, and when it's NOT...

...a thousand instruments playing in an off key with an ominous low bass wave keeping everything together.

The best thing about Strong Bad's theme is that it's totally a leitmotif in that game too. I know it's in the theme for The Field and I kinda forget where else? But still.

Kido is from a series that started as a bunch of vocaloid songs, and hers is Mekakushi Code or Blindfold Code. I'm not a creative person with account names. And the song confirms she's a 2D Otaku hikiNEET with a communication disorder I love kido so much.

BUT HER SONG NEVER GOT AN OFFICIAL VIDEO AND THE ORIGINAL GAVE ME A HEADACHE? So have the anime cover. Which is really, really good. And has been on repeat on my iPod for like... ... ... on and off two months.
