THE MUSICAL MOTIF MEME

"Each Gem in Steven Universe possesses a certain musical motif that plays during certain parts of the show. When Gems fuse, their musical motifs merge into a completely different genre of music."

As Cosmographia is based on Steven Universe, a few people, including myself, thought it would be cool to have a meme based around the idea of the musical motifs that are present in the show! There's not a whole lot of restrictions here: link your character's theme song, any theme songs for fusions that are associated with them, or simply use this as a way to pimp out cool music from your canon!

Ahem. So serious talk. Arc V's soundtrack tends to set the mood of the scene. Character themes despite their name aren't necessarily used in ONLY that character's scenes. Such as a certain protag's pendulum theme playing during Yugo's winning move in episode 72.

I'm no music nerd when it comes to descriptions, but stuff that seems to suit Yugo's style is whatever evokes a feeling of speed, a fast paced and dramatic.... uh... orchestrated trance(?) music, such as "Latest and Greatest Evolution in Dueling"

So if you fuse with Yugo, expect whatever theme that results to be dripping with awesome.

so, Coven actually has this pretty creepy and awesome leitmotif that's basically always playing in the back of my head when I tag. someone on spotify also collected all the actual songs used. think house of the rising sun and fleetwood mac and that's basically coven's aesthetic.

Roland doesn't have his own themes since Dark Tower is a book series, but I tend to go with Bassoforte for him. Fusion themes really just need to keep the twang. The twang is essential.

As a bonus I have a whole 8tracks playlist for him here. The other two intro tracks, Spike In a Rail and Gunpowder Chant, are secondary themes I like to use for him.

My personal fave song for Jade is Umbral Ultimatum because it's GORGEOUS but she's got a lot of other associated songs because Homestuck is pretty music-heavy!

Music associated with Rick thematically tends to take after works of sci-fi and chiptune, reflecting his own overblown genius nature. The genre tends to vary, but his songs typically bleed tales of his genius nature - extremely fast-paced.

His main leitmotif is the Rick and Morty theme.

Yg'baladoth is an OC, and yet because I've had her for SO STINKING LONG I actually have a few themes for her (especially since her realm is sound eheh).

Depth by Sasukeshika is an excellent tune which includes a downright strange and foreign sounds. And AKLO's Beyond Madness is a good example of how SHE screws with sound.

Lastly, Shevat the Wind is Calling provides a good counterpoint of how she controls and organizes her being. In fact, later on she'll get the ability to crystallize sound into a physical form, and I'd imagine music that she'd make and construct for herself.

So I'm thinking Vernian Process for a fusion theme.

Behold the Machine combines his strong measured beat with her more flowery and orchestral style; it's menacing and also full of bells.

The Exile is slower, has clearer twang, but is slower and less threatening.

Vagues De Vapeur is probably the best choice thought lbr. I mean just. Just listen to that.

SOUNDTRACK MEEEEEEME

Do I need to link Garnet's stuff, give me a heads up and I will link Garnet's stuff, IIRC her instrument motif is like some kind of synth bass

But OTOH Pit's game has some awesome orchestral stuff and everyone needs to listen to it!

The first chapter is probably the closest thing to a theme for Pit, but I'm going to also link the Reaper's Line of Sight from the fourth chapter. It's my favorite and really embodies the whole feel of the game best for me? Starts off as a bouncy and orchestral cover of a song from the original NES game, and then goes into prog rock or synth metal or whatever you wanna call what Trans-Siberian Orchestra is because that's what it sounds like.

And also here's a theme for that one time Pit was a dog because it's pretty darn catchy.

If we're going to start talking about other good songs and blending musical motifs, Pit's sound is very orchestral (with gratuitous triplet notes) and his instrument-motif thing is violins.

Sunset has a theme! My Past Is Not Today, some triumphant noise about her downfall as a villain and rebirth as a decent human. Most of her melodies feature her favorite instrument, guitar.

Strong Bad's theme is...probably kitschy synth, like this: the instrumental of his theme from the game. Trogdor-style riffs are too cool for him, he's ridiculous.

Doc doesn't seem to have an official theme or any song connected to him specifically, so I can only speculate. I think a piece from the spaghetti western theremin orchestra is appropriate---simultaneously futuristic and old-fashioned like he is.

Kido is from a series that started as a bunch of vocaloid songs, and hers is Mekakushi Code or Blindfold Code. I'm not a creative person with account names. And the song confirms she's a 2D Otaku hikiNEET with a communication disorder I love kido so much.

BUT HER SONG NEVER GOT AN OFFICIAL VIDEO AND THE ORIGINAL GAVE ME A HEADACHE? So have the anime cover. Which is really, really good. And has been on repeat on my iPod for like... ... ... on and off two months.

Neither of my girls have their own themes since they're OCs, but I do have a few things I listen to when I tag with them.

Kaj gets the Year Walk soundtrack a lot, and I tend to associate this song in particular with her?

Marla, predictably enough, gets Pokemon background music, and it kinda alternates depending on what I'm feeling at the moment, but the Jubilife City theme, the Marine Tube music and the off-season Undella Town theme are the three I associate most with her.

Stan has a couple of musical motifs in Gravity Falls! Most of the time they're slower-paced, silly, and sometimes slightly spooky-sounding little songs with a lot of keyboard in them.

Okay, so! Katamari's got a TON of cool music, though it's never given the cousins specific leitmotifs, sadly. So I'll just throw out a few of my favorites:

☆ Everlasting Love -- Which also has a remix in Katamari Forever called Everlasting Love + You, with English lyrics! Or there's the atomTM remix...

☆ Cherry Blossom Color Season, which also has a KF remix -- Cherry Blossom Color Season (fanfare mix). And another one by DJ Jo for the Katamari: Dance with Me album...

☆ Colorful Heart, which she actually sung for Tanabata.

So Konoha is up there with Kido being from a series originally based in Vocaloid songs. His one is Konoha no Sekai Jijou or Konoha's State of the World (which is, cooly enough, a scene/story shared with another character in another song Kagerou Daze or Heat Haze Daze), but he also has Yuukei Yesterday or Yesterday Evening, Outer Science, and Summertime Record. He has so many because he is a man of many roles in this series, some more willing than others.

A song that isn't from his canon but goes beyond well with his story is U2's Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of.

OMIGAWD STAND-BY FOR LINK SPAM. BECAUSE CHARACTER THEMES AND RWBY.

So Yang's character theme is called "I Burn" and there are at least 3 versions of it and they're all great:

"I Burn" (Yellow Trailer) This version also contains the themes of her teammates. Only "club'd" up. So probably when she fuses with her teammates this is close to the kind of music that would play.

Alrighty, so Ford doesn't exactly have a musical motif in the show, but his journal sure does - Book Discovery by Brad Breeck is a pretty fitting song for him, considering how spooky, mysterious, and vaguely sinister it is.

Silence in the Library from the Doctor Who soundtrack is another good theme for him.

He also has a playlist on his profile that desperately needs updating,
if anyone is curious.

When it comes to fusion themes, Ford would mesh really well with anything instrumental, electro instrumental, or even techno - he's a classy guy but he's also a HUGE NERD.

Well, Shun actually has a fair buttload of background themes; most of them are general Resistance tracks that apply to Yuuto as well like Cornered Duelist, Duel of Rebellion and Wave the Flag of Rebellion, but The Evolving Falcon is his Rank-Up theme song.
I'm also going to add the second opening and ending themes for ARC-V since they have some good Shun moments, and the third opening because it has a nice beat to it.

For Minto, I'm also putting the opening and ending to TMM here because they're adorable, and because other than that her only theme is basically her transformation song - and also the english dub one, because if there's one thing that dub actually didn't fuck up, it was the music.

Davesprite, as I mentioned during his intro, has his own very catchy, self-titled theme (also available in not 15 minutes long), and though Yue already linked the short versions I'm going to link the extended editions of Time On My Side and Candles and Clockwork (Alpha Version), because hhhh they're so good and they're the music I tag with him to half the time.

Weiss has a leitmotif (+vol2) that's derived from Mirror, Mirror. Also the rules say I can just link cool music from my canon so YO CHECK THIS.

Tran is from a book and book canons are suffering but you know what? ANY NINE INCH NAILS SONG. Or a mashup like Shake it Off vs The Perfect Drug. Complication with Optimistic Outcome isn't strictly NIN, but would be a good choice for something instrumental. Or you could just go with shit like Trampa.

For Togo, you should just listen to this. It's way better than her image song.

Blake I could go super easy and say her theme song from her trailer, From Shadows. But that's not really who she is, it's more about who she was. So I'm actually going to say the instrumental score to the episode Burning the Candle from RWBY's second volume. It was a real turning point for her, and something she goes back to a lot. (From Shadows is definitely her battle theme, though.) For something not from RWBY, I'd say O.A.R.'s Peace, not because it applies to her strictly, but because it's what she wants, what she deserves. (Especially considering her relationship with Yang here in game)

Daniel is easy. This Is Gonna Hurt by Sixx:A.M. for his fight theme, and the acoustic version for his general motif.

Chris is a little difficult. I could go with the Wild Kratts theme, but that may be a bit on the nose. A definite motif would be the creature power theme from the show, which I'm having a hell of a time finding even though I KNOW I uploaded it somewhere. So instead I'm gonna throw it back and say Bobby Darin's If I Could Talk to the Animals, since that's pretty much always been his theme to me.

I always liked "Wings" as a replacement-ish theme for Blake (or at least a song for her in some way)?

SO UNFORTUNATELY SINCE AS SOMEONE PUT IT, I PLAY BIT CHARACTERS...

I don't have nearly as many links of music sob. BUT! While Reira's theme remains yet trapped in the confines of unreleased things (and Masumi never had one), Gongenzaka DOES have a few!

The first one is the more calm and aptly named Gongenzaka's Theme, though I don't actually listen to that one very much! It's a nice track, but while it suits his casual actions....

STEADFAST DUEL is the one I listen to for battle! It's a bit quicker, and better suits his liveliness I think.

A Fool Or A Clown? - Adachi's theme in the Persona fighting games and imo the most fitting song for him out of the bunch
Long Way - his personal dungeon theme from the original game
Long Way remix - piano only version for the second anime's bad end OAV
Who's There? - ok so this is the designated "spooky murder theme" for the original game but uh. it may as well be his theme ok if you know canon you know why
A Little & A Downfall - new tracks for the second anime that were used in Adachi's episodes. I'm not going to spoil what they were played over but they are good for both sides of his character.
Yin Yang - AHAHAHA THIS. THIS FUCKING THING. I'M ONLY LINKING IT JUST BECAUSE I WANT TO EXPOSE AS MANY PEOPLE TO IT AS POSSIBLE but it's from the second anime AND IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE... I'm going to play lowball with my characters a bit since it's late at night and just give some of the first songs I think of when I think of them.

For Jappleack, I constantly think of something usually upbeat and vulgar. This would more or less be her theme song to me. NSFW by the way, just so you know.

For Pokey, this could canonically be considered his theme song. After all his experiences and deviation in Mayfield, a big song I tend to think of with him is this.
